Introduction
The Global Entrepreneurial University Metrics initiative (GEUM) 1 is an international Working Group initiated by the International Triple Helix Institute (ITHI), CWTS Leiden University and Psychology in the Public Interest Program, North Carolina State University, under the umbrella of Triple Helix Association 2. The initiative began with 7 country teams from Brazil, China, Finland, Austria, Netherlands, Russia, USA at Workshop 3 hosted by CWTS Leiden in June 2015, supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation, International Division, and is currently being scaled up to 10 and more county teams that participate at a follow-on workshop to be held in Silicon Valley 3-5th June 2016. The international co-operation under the GEUM initiative aims at development of new entrepreneurial university metrics to be introduced into international (and national) university ranking systems as well as new ways and methods, quantitative and qualitative to measure, evaluate and assist entrepreneurial and innovative universities development worldwide. The intention is to go from case studies and specific indicators defining the role and essence of entrepreneurial university to undertake broad comparisons through the GEUM network, while also encouraging methodologies that take local special features into account, in their own right and for organizational transfer.
Global Entrepreneurial University Metrics Workshop II is aimed at discussion of initial results from projects underway in Brazil, Finland and Holland, presentation of proposals under review in U.S, Russia, China, etc., as well as mentoring new progect teams and proposals in development. The Workshop will also engage in discussion with international ranking producers, in order to deepen the discussions on methods and metrics applicable to GEUM worldwide.

Kanetaka M. Maki is the Japan Program Research Associate at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center and an International Affiliated Fellow at National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP). Maki holds a Ph.D. in management from the University of California, San Diego. He received M.A. in Media and Governance and B.A. in Environmental Information, both from Keio University. Maki’s research interests are in the fields of socioeconomics of innovation & entrepreneurship, science policy, and university industry technology transfer. He has three streams of research contribution: (1) the institutional design of entrepreneurship in connection with research universities; (2) startup success rates; and (3) comparative quantitative research, in particular innovation streams in Japan.
